What type of Asset Trackers do I need

Differences between Powered and Unpowered Asset Trackers

Powered Asset Trackers
Powered asset trackers and unpowered asset trackers serve similar purposes in monitoring and managing assets but differ significantly in their operation and applications. A powered asset tracker, which connects directly to a power source, offers real-time tracking capabilities. This continuous power supply allows for frequent updates on the location and status of an asset, making it ideal for monitoring valuable or critical items that require constant oversight.

Unpowered Asset Trackers
On the other hand, an unpowered asset tracker operates on a large battery and typically sends updates only once a day. This type of tracker is designed for long-term deployment where power access is limited or non-existent. Its less frequent updates are a trade-off for the benefit of extended battery life, which can last for months or even years, depending on the usage and settings. Consequently, unpowered trackers are best suited for assets that do not need constant monitoring or for situations where minimizing maintenance and maximizing deployment time are critical.

BridgeHaul's Powered Asset tracker is perfect for trailers and other equipment that connect to a powered vehicle or has power itself with an ignition.  Trailers are the primary use case for our powered asset tracker.

BridgeHaul's unpowered asset tracker provides location updates typically once or twice a day in order preserve the battery life of the tracker for 5-10 years.  Containers that sit in a yard or other equipment like lightposts or forklifts are the primary use cases for our unpowered assets.
